You won't want to miss the powerful finale at Jazz Concert 2022, when today's greatest jazz artists take the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center stage to celebrate the return from the jam.
Are Old Hdb Worth Buying?
May 12th features Peter and Will Anderson on saxophone, flute and clarinet; For the first time, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ted Rosenthal, drummer Victor Lewis, trumpeter Brian Lynch and guitarist James Cirillo play together. For Jack Kleinzinger, the jam is the true heart of jazz, and the jam has become one of the most important parts of the jazz culture. At each return of the Jam Session concert, Kleinsinger brings together musicians who have never played together in this format before, showing off their cuts and adaptations as they rise to the occasion.

"I would never ask anyone to bring their own band," Kleinsinger said. They like to listen when they are in their natural environment.
This year's lineup includes trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, who came to jazz attention in 1989 as part of the Wynton Marsalis Septet; He is a founding member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which began in 1995 Wycliffe stars with David Sanborn, Renee Marie, Dianne Reeves, Annette Cohen, Arturo Sandoval, Dixie Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Tommy Flanagan, Shirley Horne, Joe Henderson. and Eric Reid just to name a few. The trombonist has released three dozen CDs as a leader or leader-leader and is a consistent winner of "Best Trombonist" awards from many publications and professional organizations.

Saxophonist/clarinetist/flutist Peter and Will Anderson: Praised for their outstanding personalities by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and other publications, the identical Anderson twins began immersing themselves in classical jazz while in elementary school. They used the styles and voices of Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie. They cite Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker as early influences Since moving to the Big Apple they have played with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy Heath, Jimmy Cobb and the Gram Vanguard Orchestra. In addition to releasing several headlining albums, the Juilliard-trained duo celebrated the music of Artie Shaw and the Dorsey Brothers on Broadway.
Pianist Ted Rosenthal first came to the radar of many critics and listeners as the winner of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jallow International Piano Competition. Since then, he has lived up to his original promise, releasing more than a dozen albums as a leader, and touring with NEA Jazz Masters Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Bob Brookmeier and James Moody, along with other jazz greats. . Mr. Rosenthal has received numerous grants and commissions from the NEA, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the New York City Opera; He received a four-star Downbeat review for his solo song 'B', which focuses on the melodies of fellow pianists Bill Evans and Bud Powell, and Beethoven improvisations. Prior to his illness, Ted was a concertgoer and entertainer in the halls of clubs and theaters in the New York metropolitan area.

For a quick tour of the modern jazz world, look at the example of drummer Victor Lewis. Since the 1970s, he has been a regular in the office with Stan Getz, Kenny Barron, Dexter Gordon , Louis Tabekin and J.J. Johnson; Spirit of Adventure with Carla Bley, George Adams, David Murray and Charles Tolliver; and vocalists Judy Nimack, Helen Merrill, Carmen Lundy and Abby Lincoln. This photobook explores a few areas where Victor left his mark, but remember that Dumpher was on the scene and continued to make great sounds in person and on record for forty years.

Although many artists today have jazz examples, Trump's Brian Lynch rarely graduated from some of the most famous and respected musicians: Art Blake's Jazz Messengers and the Horace Silver Quintet. Brian has played with NEA Jazz Masters Tashiko Akiyoshi, Benny Golson, and Phil Woods, and has deep roots in Latin music with Eddie Palmeri, Conrad Herwig, Hector Lavoie, and Lila Downs. The recording artist has received numerous awards, grants and commissions and performed on hundreds of albums, including two dozen hits.

When you're looking for a guitarist who can rock, look no further than six-string maven James Cirillo. His awards refer to generations of giants who created and grew up in the genre (Benny Goodman, Benny Carter, Frank Weiss, Eddie Barefield and Buck Clayton) to those who made the transition in the later years. (Wynton Marsalis, Tony Bennett). Michael Feinstein) has also worked in many styles with James Paquito de Rivera, Joe Lovano and other jazz greats. He has appeared on numerous albums, films and Broadway shows, and is on the jazz faculty at Juilliard.
Introducing a surprise special guest is a longstanding tradition for the Jazz Highlights Series, and the return of the Jam Session will be no exception. This idea crossed Kleinsinger's mind before trying to organize the concert. The lifelong jazz musician remembered the first big concert he attended, one of Norman Grant's first famous performances. The surprise special guest that night was none other than Billie Holiday, one of the brightest jazz stars of the era "She came on stage and the island people rioted," Kleinzinger said. It had a similar effect on me. It was nice to see someone else, people remember for years So I decided to do this when I planned my first concert

Sometimes Kleinsinger is surprised by a special guest, like Jean Bertonsini who appeared with an ax in hand. Bucky Pizzarelli, the veteran guitarist, was sent to the booth. Sometimes the guests themselves were surprised: Kleinsinger looked around the crowd to see who could sit down. He remembers seeing Ellington graduated Ray Nance in the audience and brought him on stage; Since Ray didn't play the violin or the trumpet, he survived by singing and dancing
Since his beginnings as a producer in the early 1970s, diversity has been important to Kleinsinger. "It's not just a support group in any crisis, I always hope for intergenerational interaction," he said. One of John Pizzarelli's first adventures was in jazz – at the age of 15 he was on stage with his father, Baggie and Zoot Sim. Another jump on the generation gap is the Trump duo: a young John Faddis and the old politician Doc Cheatham.

The 49th season is over for the iconic series, which returns to the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center stage after a two-year hiatus. This is the longest since the first Jazz Highlights presentation in the 1970s.
