Hanson and Richard E. Perlman, W'68, 10 million dollar pledge, which furthers the university's commitment to encouraging students to innovate. Their contribution will establish Entrepreneurship by Acquisition (ETA) and support additional programming at the Venture Lab, a central resource for entrepreneurship connecting college students.
"The university has long been committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship," said Interim President Wendell Pritchett. "This generous commitment from Ellen Hanson and Richard Perlman will greatly enhance our efforts to inspire Penn students to innovate. We are grateful that Ellen and Richard's vision and philanthropy will further advance our position as leaders in the study and practice of entrepreneurship through our acquisitions and further the spirit of Penn that it will guarantee the growth of the entrepreneur."

Wharton ETA's new programming will raise awareness that many successful entrepreneurial endeavors—including many alumni—have grown through new owners' investment and dedication to growing an existing small business. Ms. Hanson and Mr. Perlman's gift will support broader programs and initiatives within Venture Lab's ETA program, including curriculum development and delivery; workshops and research; and support for resident staff advisors and specialists. Their contributions will also provide financial support to university alumni – known as Perlman Fellows – who wish to pursue ETA research, making ETA more accessible and professional, encouraging students.

Focusing on teaching opportunities for current students and postgraduate learning opportunities, ETA will bring together faculty and alumni to provide constructive guidance and mentorship to students pursuing these activities. ETA's curriculum is designed to provide students with tactical and actionable business knowledge, from faculty-led instruction to workshop series and guest speakers. As Perlman Fellows, recent graduates will benefit from alumni mentorship, gain research experience, and optimize resources that support their journey.
"The future of business depends on progressive and innovative leaders who challenge the norm and bring new, fresh ideas and perspectives to the world," said Mr. Perlman. "There is no better investment than the next generation of great business leaders, and Ellen and I are proud of Wharton & Penn's tremendous work to support that progress. We hope that expanding the curriculum will encourage more students to pursue ETA."

Volume 68 Number 28
The experiences and reflections of recent Wharton MBA ETA Club President Austin Lee, WG'21 show the promise of this gift dedicated to expanding ETA opportunities.
"My decision to pursue a career in procurement was greatly influenced by Wharton faculty, students and the ETA Club," said Mr. Lee. "At Horton, I learned the business fundamentals needed to run a small business. There are more Wharton alumni in the ETA space than most people think, an enthusiastic and supportive group of people who I have met as a student and now as a graduate in a fun and exciting career.
