Flypaper is an ongoing collaboration between artists Douglas Degas and Sarah Phyllis Smith. The work explores relationships with land and landscape through juxtaposition of text and imagery. Analog systems seem poised to engage in a new vision when we have instant access to everything from information on the Internet to our ability to take, store, and share pictures at the same time. This collaborative work is not only a celebration of the world or matter, but also reflects the speed at which images are produced and consumed. Image-making is seen as a reflective and physical process in which mixed media and materials become containers for pictorial and verbal memory.

For Sarah, whose work is often rooted in history, the work is a constant refinement of abstraction. For Douglas, the work represents an embrace of imagery and narrative. This collaborative work becomes a matter of author style and style when presented, as all works work well together and use mixed styles and different studio film techniques and image production strategies. Work is often presented to demonstrate this. Works are installed in a rhythm established by competing visions and giant leaps, as seen in SPIROL Art Gallery.
